The Gulf of California Semester
The Gulf of California Semester participated in an exciting three-day workshop run by two visiting her petologists, Rafael Lara from Instituto Tecnológico de Sonora and Ana Giselle Perez from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. The students attended several lectures on identifying, collecting, and handling reptiles, then had the opportunity to put their new knowledge in practice. They went out looking for snakes and lizards early in the mornings and just after each sunset. These trips were a success – they found more than eight different reptile species!
Friends and Family
The Kino Bay Center draws people back years after their experiences here! We were pleased to welcome a group of Prescott College alumni and people who have a long-term involvement with our work – the Friends and Family of the Kino Bay Center. To learn more about the projects we are focusing on this year, the group had the chance to join Center staff in their weekly activities. They talked with members of community groups supported by the Center and interacted with the Prescott College Gulf of California Semester and the visiting group from Cochise College. The group thoroughly enjoyed measuring sea turtles, planting a garden, looking for marine mammals, and joining an art workshop!
Separate from the Friends and Family group, we had a visit from our friends Mary Trevor and Toni Krauss. Now retired, Mary and Toni were the long-time registrar of Prescott College and library director at the Prescott Public Library. They have a long history of involvement with the Center. In their first visit in seven years, they had a great time catching up with old friends and seeing the changes to the center and region at large.
