Sharing Knowledge
The Wetlands Conservation Program participated in the sixth National Conference on Mangroves, which ran from March 29-31 in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora. They participated with a presentation entitled ‘Conservation and Multi-Stakeholder Co-Management in the Wetlands of Laguna La Cruz Ramsar Site’. In addition, a group of fishermen from Bahia de Kino and a group focused on restoring mangroves in Punta Chueca had the opportunity to share their positive experiences of the relationships generated between mangroves and their communities.
The Marine Mammal Program had a busy month of presentations! The Program Coordinator was invited to give a presentation called ‘Whales in the Gulf of California: Whale Diversity in the Midriff Islands Region’ at the first Sonoran Marine Biology Festival at the University of Sonora. University students from the Gulf of California Semester and Cochise College received the presentation ‘How to study marine mammals: survey and photo-ID on cetaceans in the region’. Finally, students in the 6th grade in Bahia de Kino learned generally about the species of whales and dolphins found in the region.
