Indigenous Community Partnerships

Connecting traditional and western ways of knowing with territorial defense

What We Do

The Comcaac (Seri) have been connected to the land and sea of this region for thousands of years, defending their territory against waves of conquest. The Center’s Indigenous Community Partnership Program (ICPP) connects research and conservation in the region with Comcaac traditions, knowledge, self-determination and conservation practices, building upon the Center’s long-term partnerships with the Comcaac. The ICPP supports Comcaac community members in developing leadership skills as well as acquiring traditional knowledge and appropriate research and conservation methods in order to manage, protect, and defend their rich natural and cultural heritage. The ICPP facilitates collaborations between the Comcaac and outside groups and also participates in national and international dialogs focused on indigenous rights. The ICPP connects the goals and initiatives of Prescott and the Comcaac in education, research, and conservation, while striving to enrich the bio-cultural experience of both.
